Model Care

Looking after your model properly will help preserve its condition, detail, and value over time.
Whether you are new to collecting or adding to an established collection, these practical tips will help you handle, display, and care for your models with confidence.
Opening Your Package

Your order is carefully packed, but please open it with care.
- Avoid cutting directly into the box with scissors or a knife.
- Instead, cut the tape along the edges and gently open the flaps.
- This helps prevent accidental damage to the model or packaging.
Please take care when using sharp tools.
Preparing Your Model

Take your time when removing your model from its packaging.
- Cardboard boxes: Open flaps gently using a blunt tool (such as a ruler or letter opener) to avoid creasing.
- Display cases: Lids may be tight when new. Ease them open carefully from the base.
- Blister packs: Release fasteners gradually rather than forcing them open.
- Mounted models: Use a suitable screwdriver and apply steady pressure when removing screws.
Before handling, check where it is safe to hold the model. Avoid touching delicate parts such as mirrors, aerials, or decals.
- Clean hands are essential.
- Gloves can help, but take care not to snag small parts.
Resin models require extra care as they are more fragile than diecast and may have tightly fixed screws or minor residue from production.
Displaying Your Model
How you display your model has a direct impact on its long-term condition.
- Avoid direct sunlight or strong artificial light, which can cause fading.
- Keep away from heat sources such as radiators.
- Display in a dust-free cabinet where possible.
Storing Your Model
If you are not displaying your model, proper storage is essential.
- Avoid lofts, garages, or basements where temperature and humidity fluctuate.
- Store in a stable, dry indoor environment.
- Wrap boxes in acid-free tissue paper to prevent discolouration.
- Use strong outer boxes for added protection.
Cleaning Your Model

Dust is the most common issue for displayed models.
- Do not use household dusters or cleaning sprays, as these can damage finishes.
- Use compressed air or a manual air blower for a non-contact clean.
- Use a soft brush for detailed areas such as wheels and interiors.
- Finish with a microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints.
